BEVAGNA in Umbria
« Salve, Umbria verde! »
Starting from Bevagna, most cities of Umbria (Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Spoleto, Todi, Orvieto, Norcia) with their gorgeous churches, monasteries and palaces, can be explored effortlessly in a day’s trip. Stroll along the original Via Flaminia, on the very same tracks the Romans used to tread; explore ancient Etruscan towns; follow the path of some of the great painters of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance and study their works; pay a short visit to Saint Francis of Assisi or just take our Grotto as a starting point for relaxing walks across vineyards and olive groves, mountain biking or rides on horseback. Nature at its fullest can be experienced on the plateau of Castelluccio or on the Monti Sibillini.
Umbria is the land of feasting, as well: music, dancing, good food and fine wine are cornerstones of the many festivals held during the year. You can visit the countless summer festivals (“le sagre”) or the Medieval tournaments of the neighboring towns, like “Il Mercato delle Gaite” at Bevagna in the end of June, the breakneck “Corsa dei Ceri” of Gubbio in May or the international music festival of Spoleto. Not just that. Sausages from Norcia, lentils from Castelluccio, onions of Cannara, small white beans from the Trasimeno region, white veal from the Apennines, truffles, wine, delicious olive oil, Anna’s coffee, Riccardo’s gelato, figs from the Grotto garden… all of this must be savored once at least!
We’ll happily disclose some of our secrets to you.
